Bear Grizzly

The grizzly bear is a subspecies of brown bear inhabiting in North America. They originated in Eurasia and traveled to North America 50,000 years ago. The grizzly brown bears are everywhere in North America. Most of the male bears weigh 180 -360kg(400-800lb) and the female weigh 130-180kg (300-400lb). The grizzly bears are identified by a hump that appears on their shoulders, and a short face. They have huge claws that is measured at 2-4 inches long.

 

Grizzly bears are also found in Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. In North America, they are mainly in Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, and Washington. They are also in Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. Additionally, you can also enjoy seeing them at many zoos across America.

 

Grizzly bears live very long lives. A female lives up to 26 years of age, and a male up to 22 years. Most wild grizzlies, die within the first years of hunting and predation. The ones that are in the zoo, can live up to 44 years.

 

Grizzly bears hibernate up to 7 months per year- when it's cold. During hibernation, grizzly bears do not eat, urinate, or defecate. When the hibernation period is over, they like to gather around lakes, rivers, streams, and ponds.

 

Grizzly bears are Carnivora, so they like plants and animals. They like to prey on large mammals- deer, caribou, elk, moose, and bison. They also are known to love salmon and chase fish. At the zoo, they are fed fish snacks, berries, apples, carrots, celery, biscuits, and bread.

 

Grizzly bears are an amazing species, and you can enjoy viewing them at the zoo, while they swim, eat, and catch fish.
